Andrew Wheale: Wilfred Owen’s Last Battle

On 4th November 1918 2nd Lieutenant Wilfred Edward Salter Owen of the 2nd Battalion, The Manchester Regiment, was killed while leading his troops across the Sambre–Oise Canal.  He died only a week before the Armistice was announced and World War One on the Western Front ended.

This talk examines Owen’s background, his personal journey in terms of poetry and soldiering, and finally his death in action.
